Get inspired by Earth Hour celebration stories WWF Canada March 8, 2011 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email By Ryley Murray Communications Intern Lots of you have been turning off your lights since Earth Hour’s inception, like our friend Barry Twohig who was in Australia in 2007 for the first-ever Earth Hour. He enjoyed his experience so much that he’s decided to participate actively every year since then. Barry also writes a blog about his green lifestyle and his support of WWF’s Earth Hour: https://iamearthworld.blogspot.com/. Another truly amazing Earth Hour story comes from a woman named Tracey, who gave birth during Earth Hour. In the midst of her labour pains, she remembered to turn out the lights. That is one conscientious mom! Her Earth Hour baby is named Jacob and was born at 9:12 pm on March 27, 2010. Green13 is a community group in Toronto that organizes candle lit walks around various neighborhoods in the city during WWF’s Earth Hour, accompanied by acoustic music and refreshments at rest stops along the way. Many of our supporters say that they like to extend the designated 8:30 to 9:30 time slot into an entire evening. Some great ideas include candle lit dinners with a menu consisting of local or raw food, playing board games with friends by candle light and star gazing. If you’re celebrating WWF’s Earth Hour in a fun and exciting way, please let us know. We’d love to hear from you so we can share your story and inspire others.
