Join the wave – and help WWF raise up to $100,000 for fresh water conservation WWF May 27, 2011 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email Today, I joined a wave on Facebook. You should too. To celebrate their second annual Blue Water Day on June 10, our good friends at RBC have issued a challenge to people across Canada and around the world to help create the world’s biggest virtual wave of support for water. The big event will take place in a virtual sports stadium created on Facebook where people can Join the Wave by liking the project on Facebook. You also have the fun option of uploading a photo onto an avatar in the stadium. RBC has graciously offered to donate $1 for every seat filled, up to $100,000, to WWF-Canada – so please participate! Timing couldn’t be better. The freshwater team here at WWF is hard at work pulling together our Living Rivers campaign – a 5+ year effort aimed at protecting and restoring the health of Canada’s rivers and the waters that follow their course. Canada is home to some of last truly wild rivers on the planet – rivers that flow unimpeded from source to sea. The Living Rivers campaign aims to protect these global treasures. At the same time, we will work to ensure our working rivers – those we depend on to generate electricity, to irrigate our fields and to give us water to drink – have the water they need to be healthy and productive. By challenging people to Join the Wave, RBC is both raising much needed awareness of the importance of fresh water to Canadians and raising funds to support WWF’s campaign to provide sustainable solutions to Canada’s mounting water problems.
