BC Moves Ahead with new Water Sustainability Act
The BC Minister of the Environment today released the final public consultation report for the new Water Sustainability Act, making good on a promise she made earlier this month.
WWF-Canada welcomes this development, as we’ve been calling for stronger protection for water for some time. Our video below, featuring WWF Freshwater Ambassador Scott Niedermayer and the music of the Great Lake Swimmers, shows what an amazing resource we have.
We will be analyzing the proposal to see how it responds to the Top Ten Reasons Why BC Needs a New Water Act, a list we put together this month.
We anticipate that the proposal for the new Act will remedy the lack of groundwater regulation, one of the greatest weaknesses of the existing Water Act, and emphasize new tools to protect water for nature.
Stay tuned for our analysis. And spread the word! Please share the video and Fact Sheet, and let the province know that you support stronger protection for BC’s most precious resource.
