Draft coal regulations don’t go far enough

Canada is in a position to be able to completely phase-out coal within a number of years, if it so decided. Ontario, which used to use more coal than any other province in Canada, has almost completely rid of coal-powered electricity. Coal will no longer exist in Ontario as of 2014.
Putting laws around coal is a huge opportunity for us to eliminate 11 percent of Canada’s emissions that are adding to climate change, but Canada will miss that opportunity and implement weak regulations unless we send them a message.
WWF-Canada calls on Canada to implement meaningful regulations that will start reducing emissions today.
