Explore Outdoors: Amazing Animals
April is Explore Outdoors month! Spring has sprung, why not celebrate? April is a great month to get outside and reconnect with nature. Whether you’re training for WWF’s CN Tower Climb, discovering the season with your kids or students or just enjoying warmer weather, keep an eye on our blog and wwfcastg.wwf.ca for great ideas and resources.
Want to explore the outdoors with your class? Get started with advice from these six elementary school teachers, who all answered the question, “How do you spend time outdoors with your class?”
Through our education program, Schools for a Living Planet, WWF is encouraging classrooms to get outside this month using our brand new and free resources for teachers. Today we’re launching the Amazing Animals unit for Grade 2. This resource introduces students to the diversity of wildlife and explores many of the similarities between humans and animals.
Full of activity ideas; art projects; experiments; recommended books, videos and online games; Amazing Animals makes full use of the outdoors and will help students develop an appreciation for nature and the world around them. Downloadable and printable WWF Wonder Books act as nature journals, to be used for documenting all of the students’ “I wonder…” questions.
Special thanks to the classroom teachers across Canada who have helped us develop these materials, most especially Donna Creighton, retired teacher / curriculum consultant, and Sofia Argiropulos, a Grade 2/3 teacher with Toronto District School Board.
WWF’s Schools for a Living Planet connects educators and students of all ages to WWF’s conservation work. Join the S4LP community and learn how you can inspire your classrooms and classmates to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
