Get cozy on campus this National Sweater Day! WWF January 23, 2014 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email Last year, 14 Canadian university and college campuses participated in National Sweater Day; students turned down the heat in school buildings and donned their woolliest sweaters to celebrate the day in style. (Or, not in style, depending on the sweater!) Last year, University of Calgary students raised nearly $900 for Arctic Home! © University of Calgary / WWF-Canada From National Sweater Day photo booths to hot drink sales and school-wide clothing drives, students have come up with some super creative Sweater Day event ideas, drawing attention to climate change issues. Inspired by campus events from years’ past, WWF has compiled some of the best ideas — plus a few new ones of our own — into a handy toolkit for post-secondary students, making it easy to get your campus involved. To kick-start your thinking, here are some photos from a few of our favourite National Sweater Day events from 2013: Members of University of British Columbia’s student club Common Energy set up a National Sweater Day photo booth outside of the campus bookstore, complete with free hot chocolate and fun props. This self-described “unicorn-ersity student” is studying forestry, hence the paperless sign. © University of British Columbia Common Energy © University of British Columbia Common Energy Trent University students packed an on-campus venue (all the better for staying warm) for an open mic and trivia night. Looks like Panda had a good time, too! © Trent University / WWF-Canada © Trent University / WWF-Canada On February 6, students at the University of Toronto Mississauga will be hosting their third annual hot chocolate sale, Sweater contest and raffle! © University of Toronto Mississauga / WWF-Canada We’re looking forward to a warm and cozy day on campuses across the country. Hope your campus plans to join us on February 6! National Sweater Day is made possible through partial proceeds from the sale of plastic shopping bags in Loblaw banner stores across Canada. Since 2009, Loblaw Companies Limited has donated one million dollars annually to WWF, for a total of six million dollars, to support activities that engage Canadians on climate change and other conservation issues.
