Happy holidays from WWF-Canada WWF December 23, 2010 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email Together we celebrated some big wins on the water, including the designation of Gwaii Haanas National Marine Conservation Area in the Pacific; the creation of three national wildlife areas off Baffin Island, including a bowhead whale sanctuary; and the protection of coldwater corals on the Grand Banks from bottom fishing. We continued to bring sustainable seafood to the marketplace and worked with lobster fishermen to develop practices that limit the entanglement of endangered North Atlantic right whales in fishing gear. We drew national attention to the need for healthy flow in Canada’s rivers, through our Rivers at Risk report and our work on the Athabasca River Phase II Framework Committee. By turning out your lights for one hour, you helped us achieve record participation in Earth Hour. We also ended the year with some meaningful commitments at the tiger summit in Russia to save tigers from extinction. In Canada alone, you helped raise over $300,000 in support of our tiger campaign. None of this would be possible without your dedication and support. Together we will continue to tackle the world’s most pressing conservation challenges, ensuring we protect it for the next generation. From everyone here at WWF-Canada we wish you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season. (c) James Carpenter/WWF-Canada
