Well, as my mother would say, “The proof is in the pudding!” Even as an adult, I still don’t fully understand this saying, but the point is, the numbers speak for themselves. Each Champion set up their own online Living Planet Community company group and encourage their employees to sign up and track their personal conservation actions. Some even have several groups, creating a little friendly competition between floors or teams. I personally am hooked on the Living Planet Community, a site where I can record my green actions and learn about new ones. What is even more amazing is when you add up the individual savings and see the huge difference that dedicated groups of people are making. (c) iStockphoto.com The recorded actions of each Living Planet @ Work company resulted in big GHG savings and together… Are you ready for this? 1,610 of their employees collectively saved over 5 million Kgs of GHGs!!! That is the equivalent of: • Saving 118,716,018 plastic bags from being produced • Taking more than 2,000 houses off the grid for one year • Taking 860 cars off the road for one year • Diverting 1,700 tons of landfill to recycling Way to go Sears with almost 700 members taking close to 3,000 green actions. And nice work Hydro One, with 423 members taking 5,000 green actions. Finally, a big thank you to all of the Living Planet @ Work Champions, the employees and all of YOU, the Living Planet Community who continue to spread the word, makes all the difference in the world. Just think if we could engage every company and every employee of those companies to incorporate sustainability in every one of their business and personal decisions.
