I sent some cheer, and I liked it

Sending an email to my Dad
My dad is fairly gung-ho about Earth Hour this year, so my sending the reminder was merely in pursuit of a laugh. You see, he’s the type of person that refers to anything that happens on his phone as email. So when it came to sending out the Earth Hour cheer-spiration reminder, I knew I’d get a worthwhile response.
According to him, opening the video was half the battle. I’m almost positive that’s because his computer works on something equivalent to MS-DOS.
While I walked him through opening the video, he proceeded to hit play and I listened intently.
“How does World Wildlife Fund know my name?” He asked me with exuberance in his tone. At this point, I’m so pathetically proud of myself for unintentionally stumping him. Since this was so amusing for me, I thought why not try to do the same with my older sister…

Sending an unforgettable tune to my sister
Quite the ‘forgetful Francis,’ she is. I suppose being a nurse, working 12-hour shifts, could justify her muddled memory – but it her inability to recall even a recent conversation, led me to believe sending this video would have a solid element of surprise.
“Is this that cheer thing you were telling me about last week?” She sent me via text message. “I will have this in my head for days!”
I suppose my intention was not retribution for her constant singing of Britney Spears songs throughout our adolescence, jamming those catchy phrases into MY head for days – but hey, a silver lining!
Sending a reminder to my mom
With American Idol being the mother’s major source for news, the chance of her remembering to flick off her lights on March 23, is slim. She does, however, work with computers daily, so I was quite confident she would be able to figure this out.
Just as I suspected, my mother came through and opened the video without an issue. Most memorably, she noted that she “loved getting ‘a Facebook’ from her daughter,” which I can’t say I consider being the most important take-away, but at least she put March 23 in her calendar.
