National Sweater Day: Grannies and sweaters and cakes, oh my! WWF February 15, 2012 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email National Sweater Day celebrations spread far and wide on February 9. From students at Dalhousie University to MPs on Parliament Hill to the team at the City of Prince George, we’ve heard wonderful stories about Canadians turning their thermostats down and their sweaters up. (And seen some amazing photos – be sure to check out the ones on our Facebook album!) Here in Toronto, I was lucky enough to participate in several celebrations (and wore a few sweaters in the process). I started out the day with an early morning media tour with a few of our Call Centre Grannies, and our Climate and Energy Program Director Josh Laughren, which was fantastic. Then I went on to Loblaws® at Maple Leaf Gardens* – one of over 400 Loblaw banner stores participating in National Sweater Day this year! Loblaws colleagues were decked out in Maple Leafs jerseys (and one Habs sweater) and shared two beautiful National Sweater Day cakes with shoppers. It was great to see such enthusiasm from colleagues at the store, especially as National Sweater Day is made possible by partial proceeds from Loblaw’s national charge-for-plastic shopping bag program. I wrapped up the day with our office celebration, which featured one of Loblaws’ delicious cakes decorated with the WWF panda logo, and some sweater cookies (made by yours truly). It was a truly wonderful National Sweater Day – thanks so much to everyone who participated! And for those who did, please be sure to share your stories and photos. *Reg’d TM. Lic’d use.
