Students Care about the Great Bear WWF December 3, 2013 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email We introduced you to an amazing group of students at the University of Windsor last October; the campus club WWF at Windsor kicked off their fall semester with a Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup along the Detroit River. © University of Windsor / WWF-Canada Last Thursday, WWF at Windsor asked their classmates to care about the Great Bear region — a very special place on the coast of British Columbia threatened by Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline. Club members set up computers and information screens in the CAW Student Centre, and invited fellow students to add their names to the growing list of people in Canada and around the world who agree the Great Bear is no place for an oil pipeline or tankers. © University of Windsor / WWF-Canada Since sharing the link on their club’s Facebook page, nearly 200 people from Windsor have signed up to say, “No,” and 56 students added their names during the few hours the club set up in the student centre. Club members were surprised by the extremes of awareness of campus — they found students either had no idea about the proposed pipeline or they were very aware of the issue and encouraged by the club’s presence on campus. © University of Windsor / WWF-Canada With three events behind them already this school year, WWF at Windsor hopes to grow their support system of students and faculty at the University of Windsor next semester. Plans are in the works and they are excited to keep things going! © University of Windsor / WWF-Canada WWF-Canada Campus Clubs exist to support WWF’s conservation work and raise public awareness about the environmental challenges Canadians face together.
