Surrey School Wins Art of Empowerment Mural Contest
Back in February, WWF and Earth Foundation asked BC schools to think about their visions for a future in which humans lived in harmony with nature — and what that vision might look like if brought to life as a large-scale mural at their school.
Elementary and secondary schools from five different BC school boards took on the challenge, submitting ideas – through videos, photos and letters – that ranged from 3D ocean scenes to a showcase of biodiversity.
We are excited to announce that our 2014 Art of Empowerment Contest winner is Ms. Volentier’s Grade 12 Art Foundations class from Holy Cross Regional High School in Surrey, BC!
Holy Cross’ video entry was a student-led project, which highlighted both the students’ and the school’s commitment to the environment and innovative ideas, as well as their desire to inspire others.
With help from WWF and Earth Foundation, the students will begin work on their mural shortly after Earth Hour (which is this Saturday, March 29!). We will be sharing updates from the students on the blog over the coming months, with the big reveal coming at the end of the school year.
WWF is pleased to be collaborating with Earth Foundation on this project. Earth Foundation promotes environmental conservation and community beautification through education, large-scale public art and community events.
WWF’s Schools for a Living Planet connects educators and students of all ages to WWF’s conservation work. Join the S4LP community and learn how you can inspire your classrooms and classmates to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
