Tell Me Tuesdays: I am a conservationist… am I? WWF Canada July 12, 2011 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email I’ve been working at WWF for almost 6 years and it took me a few before I could feel comfortable saying, ‘I am an environmentalist’. I think I had to read a few definitions and reiterate to myself that you didn’t have to be a scientist to be an environmentalist before I could feel comfortable calling myself one. But, am I a conservationist? Last week I realized that there is another important ‘ist’, a Conservationist. If you turn off the lights when you leave the room, you are a conservationist. Or, if you bike to the store or eat local or… So, this time I didn’t hum and haw about whether I deserved the title, I proclaimed myself a conservationist! Funny thing happened For the past week I see the world in a completely different light. I hate to admit it but for the past month my garden hose has been leaking, big time. I’ve spent the month looking at the problem in dismay and doing nothing about it. Now that I realized I was a conservationist, I’m no longer dismayed. I now see solutions to my problem and am working on fix it. Weird how that works! (c) iStockphoto.com Last Week: In last week’s post we chatted about what we’re doing for the environment this summer. Corrina, Holly and Kathleen have some great projects that will make their summer a little lighter on the planet. Thanks for sharing!
