Three ways you can Count for Nature at work WWF October 25, 2016 Share: Share This Page: Share with Facebook Share via Twitter Share via Linkedin Share in email Through WWF-Canada’s Count for Nature campaign, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are sharing the many creative ways they’re making a difference at home and in their communities. Workplaces can get in on the action, too. You can engage your colleagues on sustainability and help nature thrive, even when the days are shorter and temperature drops. Here are three suggestions from WWF-Canada’s Living Planet @ Work program: 1. Take the Smart Office Challenge The information technology you depend on to do your job – computers, printers and even “invisible” equipment like servers – all create an environmental impact. But a few actions can make a big difference. Through a series of simple activities such as a power down audit and an e-waste drive, you can lead the charge to reduce your workplace’s energy and waste footprint. It’s a great way to help your coworkers count for nature all day. Check out our Smart Office Challenge for more ideas. Account for Nature You’ll find lots of great environmental allies in your workplace. And one of the most important? Your head of finance. Sustainability and finance are closely linked, and making good environmental decisions can really benefit your organization’s bottom line. The Accounting for Sustainability initiative shows you why it’s important to get your finance team engaged on sustainability. We’ve laid out five steps to get that “green light” from your senior finance leader on executing an action plan for nature. Best of all, you’ll have access to a Chartered Professional Accountant for free expert advice. 3. Plan a Polar Dip WWF-Canada’s annual Polar Dip is another way for your workplace to make an eco-splash. It’s a fun – and invigorating – way to test your fortitude, rally your co-workers in a team-building event and raise funds to protect Arctic ecosystems and all of the wildlife they support. With the weather getting cooler, it’s the perfect time to start planning for the 2017 dip. Ready to get started? Contact the Living Planet @ Work Team today.
